Meet Alex

Alex, why did you pursue a career in Marketing?

I think it's one of those things I kind of fell into. I remember my aunt was working in marketing at one of the race courses over in Melbourne and sponsors were always giving her stuff, like she had so much Lindt chocolate. Maybe my love for chocolate and Lindt balls *Drool*. But also my time working at BugerFuel, I'd always look at the marketing material they'd send us along with being part of the promo team during their IPO, getting customers to buy shares with their burgers, going along to events like Port Road Drags. I think that's what really kicked it off. So by the time I got to Year 13 at High School and doing the Young Enterprise Challenge, I was the Marketing Director for my YES business. I think marketing gave me a creative outlet. It's doing things I enjoy and I get to help businesses grow which is pretty cool.

What makes Virtual work the right fit for you?I love that I don't have to be chained to a 9-5 grind. I can do work when I'm most productive. I can fit a workout in when the gym is empty and I can check emails next to the pool in LA. It gives me the freedom and flexibility that I need to do the best work I can.

Most rewarding career moment so far?Seeing how far I've come in the last year compared to how far I might have come if I'd stayed in the corporate world. Getting out and starting a business hasn't been easy but it has rewarding moments every day whether it's a happy client or the accomplishment of wrapping a project or seeing some great results and knowing how far I've come.

What are you going to tick off the bucket list in the next 5 years?

I don't think I've thought that far ahead. I've been pretty lucky to tick a lot of things off already like living in LA, doing Coachella not once but twice and of course starting Socialike. I think it would be nice to have a permanent home for Socialike that isn't the dining room table and of course I'd like to settle down, you know the typical kind of stuff. There's plenty more travel I'd like to do too. I've never been to Europe so that could be nice.
